Friday Aug 28, 2009 - RICHIE
MEDICAL UPDATE - The latest biopsy results reveal Richie now has
liver cancer.
Both Richie and Shauna want to thank everyone
for their continued support and love.
The need for everyone's ongoing support is
now needed more than ever.
Monday Aug 24, 2009 - We are happy to announce
the fundraising event held on Aug 23 was a rousing success!
The turnout was great with the hall at capacity, the music was
terrific and the mood was upbeat. It was an overall fun
and successful event. The fundraising tally will be posted
as soon as we collect from all the bids.
We want to acknowledge the support of the
performers, the MCs, the volunteers, The Mex Pub (Roy and all
his staff), Sound Advice and the sound, light and stage crew,
and of course all who kindly donated to the cause; and finally
to everyone who showed up the give their support to Richie.
The next phase of our fundraising efforts will
be an eBay auction (date yet to be set). You can view the
items that will be up for auction
here (auction closed). Pledges will
continue to be accepted up until the auction date.
There will also be a commemorative DVD produced
of the live event held Aug 23 and this will be available for
purchase on this website and at local outlets to be announced at
a later date.
Finally we want to encourage other organizations
and friends of Richie and Shauna to get involved in their local
areas and make this a true team effort. Please contact us
at
PacificDisturbance@shaw.ca for any support we can provide.
Richie Hayward, legendary drummer
and one of the original founders and members of
Little Feat, now
celebrating their 40th year, is having to take an indefinite
amount of time off to treat a severe liver disease.
In the year to come, he will be
facing treatments, possible transplant, no work/performing, no
income, and no insurance.
Richie is now living in the Comox
Valley and is a dear friend of Pacific Disturbance.
Pacific Disturbance will be
performing at and hosting a fund raiser to help Richie with
these overwhelming medical expenses.
The fundraiser will be held on
Sunday, Aug 23 at the
Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay. Time approx 12pm -
11pm, with a variety of bands and performers all day.
Jerry Doucette will be there as
well as many local performers. An
eBay auction,
raffles
and
donations have been organized to raise funds.
Bands
and single artists are invited to perform.

I have very recently been
diagnosed with a severe liver disease. I am looking at testing
and treatments and a possible transplant, as well as an
indefinite amount of time off.
I was trying to withhold this
information until I could play my last three shows and give you
all I could without distraction. (My last show will be August
7th in Montana).
Because I have no insurance, my
friends here in Canada, where I live with my wife, wanted to
help as soon as possible and launched information about a
fundraiser and my situation, to bring in much needed funds ASAP. As it is a relatively small and local event, we were not
expecting it to be noticed, and word got out before I was
prepared to make this announcement.
Now that it has, please know that
in no way did I mean to leave you out of the loop.
My intent is to come back to the
band, as soon as I am physically able. Your love and support
will mean a lot to me, more than I can say. I love and will miss
you all, and I will see you again on the proud highway.
Richie Hayward
FROM LITTLE FEAT:
We’re of course with you in
sending all the best vibes of support to our brother Richie. We
are pleased to say that Richie’s seat is being kept warm by a
member of the family – Gabe Ford, who’s been our drum tech for
the past almost three years. Gabe’s a fine drummer – just came
off a tour with Jorma Kaukonen, Robben Ford, and Ruthie Foster –
and we know he can keep Feat rockin’.
Meantime, please join us in all
the healing thoughts at your command. You know that’s what’s on
our minds.
Yours,
Everybody at Little Feat
Message from Richie and Shauna
Richie and Shauna would like to say a warm
heartfelt 'thank you' to Pacific Disturbance. Their
overwhelming amount of support and love for our family, has
brought great strength and hope. These are the friends
that touch the soul and stay forever. We have no words to
tell you how much all of this means.
We would also like to thank Wally
Mackay for his incredible web work. He has touched the
world for us, and made anything possible.
To the lovely ladies at Square
One Travel, for helping those that want to come and share the
love, to find their way. You make it so easy, and for this
we are forever grateful. If anyone needs any assistance,
please call Charmaine or Louise at 250-334-0355 or Toll Free
1-877-334-0355.
But don't worry, you will still
see all the friendly staff from The Mex. The Mex owners have
graciously offered to pick up the tab for the room rental,
including SOCAN fees and will be looking after the liquor
license, stocking the bar and providing staff for the bar and
security personnel (a requirement by the RCMP for these events).
